About Soil and Medium
Living Soil: A living soil ecosystem nurtures and nourishes plants by providing a healthy medium to take roots and through a steady supply of nutrients. The contents of your soil are often times the difference between plants that take root and thrive and plants that wither and die.
Nutrient Rich Soil: A fertile soil will contain all the major nutrients for basic plant nutrition (e.g., nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), as well as other nutrients needed in smaller quantities (e.g., calcium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, zinc, copper, boron, molybdenum, nickel).
Light\Seed Starter Soils: Soilless seed-starting mixes have a finer texture and are made from ingredients such as milled peat moss, perlite, coconut coir fiber and vermiculite.
Hydroton: Hydroton is a growing medium composed of expanded clay pebbles. They can be found in the grow rooms of virtually every style of hydroponic grower.
Grodan: A substrate growing system is a hydroponic system where the root zone is physically supported by media. The plants are fed by applying nutrient solution to the media.
Coco/Coco Coir: Coco coir is a growing medium used in a number of garden types. It consists of fibrous coconut husks and can be mixed with soil for improved aeration of potted plants. It may also be used on its own or with aerating materials as a growing medium for hydroponic plants.
Compost: Decayed organic material used as a plant fertilizer.
Worm Castings: A convoluted mass of soil, mud, or sand thrown up by an earthworm or lugworm on the surface after passing through the worm’s body.
